REPLY TO ALLEGATION
MR SAVAGE'S CANDI'DATURE
By way of response to the criticism of the amount of discussion ft in committee' at Hosnital Board meetings cited by Mr Burnett in a recent footnote, Mr . J. Savage in an interview,, slated yesterday thai he was never a party to committee work unless absolutely necessary. During his twenty-throe years as a member of the, Hospital Board he had always entered a protest against going into committee. "I believe." said Mr Savage, "that the ratepayers have the light to hear all business transacted by tliejr representatives, bad or indifferent. I. do not think that any person can honestly accuse me of evcrS being a party to transacting business* at Hospital Board meetings in this manner." Mr Savage in offering his candidature has to his credit ten years service on the Nukuhou-Cheddar Valley Dairy Company,, has been a director of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Herd Testing Association since its) inception and next to Councillor Burt lias had the longest record of continuous) service on local bodies in this district. He was a member of tha Power Board for two terms (the first with the provisionary Board and the second when that body was properly constituted). He has been a Justice of the Peace since 1920, and has held many prominent offices in thisi district.
