LABOUR SHORTAGE
ONLY FOUR SCHEME 13 MEN
STATE FOREST' DEMAND
There would not be the slightest difficulty in placing any able-bodied man in employment, stated Mr L. H. Armstrong, Placement Officer for the Bay of Plenty this week. In the whole of the Rotorua, Tauranga, Whakatane and Opotiki districts . under the supervision of the Bay of Plenty Placement Office, there are only four men on Scheme 13. All of these are employed by the Rotorua Borough Council. Two years ago there were at least 150 men under this scheme in the Bay of Plenty. Few Farm Vacancies. Applications for vacancies on farms number 14, which compares favourably with the position at this time last year. Referring to the position in the State Forest where the labour supply has been severely depleted, Mr Armstrong staled that there were vacancies -for 150 men, but there was almost no hope of filling them. The labour shortage at timber mills was somewhat easier due to the seasonal fluctuation of orders.
