COUNTY ELECTIONS
Sir,—J. L, Burnett, Ctounty Chairman and Riding Member for the Nukuhou Riding,, is being very un • justly criticised through 3 r onr columns at the present time for tho stand hei took at public meetings in connection with Rural Housing. Although the Council abandoned "'jral Housing several months ago, as Chairman cf the Council Committee I wish to emphatically state that Mr Burnett, as County Chairman, in addressing public meetings as ht did, acted entirely in accord with a majority direction of the Council. I feel ratepayers should know this. Furthermore, as a County Councillor with 15 years standing, I say that Mr Burnett during the recent arduous war years, lias carried out the augmented duties of his office conscientiously and at great personal sacrifice. Without i'ear of contradiction I say now that there is no Councillor elected! or in prospect, who could take over the arduous duties of the office of chairman and render the' same distinguished service to the ratepayers. Yours etc., W. A. McCRACKEN".
