BREAKING UP!
LAST MEETING OF COUNCIL MUTUAL CONGRATULATIONS . It was; permissible in. view of the possibilities of the forthcoming county elections that the Councillors,- at last meeting should be free to indulge in a little mutual admiration. The chairman lead the rally, and statefd that in looking back over the three years of office they had enjoyedi, he thought they could all take credit for the progress which had, been made. The decision to, increase the plant by the addition of a 'bulldozer' had proved to, be one of the best investments the council had ever taken. In view of the criticism raised at. the time he admit- J ted that he had been 'shaky- over 1 it, but it ay as: more than, up to expectations.. Work had been maintained in spite of the war, and the reduction of Government grants, lie thanked councillors, for their support during his term as, chairman, and sakli lie ccukl not, have wished fc,r a better term. He extended: his appreciation to the engineer, clerk office and outside staffs, and said he trusted that all councillors would be returned at the polls. Cr Burt speaking for the council praised Mr Burnett's control as a chairman, addling that he had always given everyobdy a 'fair go.' He trusted too, that the ratepayers would see fit to re.tnrn him. also. Cr McCready, to use his own words, spoke as the 'disturbing element' said he thought a little opposition did a power of good. He thanked the chairman for his fairness and, impartiality. Messrs Brebner and Lucas responded for their respective departments.
