The number in the G.N. Hurdles is 38, and in the Stecplehase 43. The most notable entrants in the Hurdles are Clarion Call, Streamline, Rarotonga, Esperance Bay, Je walled Girdle, Saccone, Erination and King Rey, and in the Steeples All Irish, Chat, Clarion Call, Streamline, Gar Vaals, Baldric and Survoy. LOU ROSA AGAIN Mr A. E. Lennard's Lou Ros.i continues to be quite a payable proposition, and for consistency the Fox bridge—Lucy Rose representative ranks high. In January he accounted for the Takapuna Cup; in February he accounted for the Storey Memorial at Te Rapa, and this month Avas second to the champion Kindergarten in the Great Northern St. Leger, and won the Foley Memorial at Avon dale, running the eleven furlongs in 2.18 2-5 sees equal to 2.5 2-5 for a mile and a quarter. SPEAR DANCE REPRESENTATIVE A feature of the racing at the Avondale meeting was the success of Mr J. Clothier, of Matamata, with his two horses. Prince Rcwa and Te Halca. Thci first named is by Spear Dance (imported from England by Mr J. Pollen) from Lady Rewa by Lucullus. -and Te Haka by Spear Dance—Unity. The progeny of Spear Dance have hitherto not been as successful on the turf his pedigree woukl denote, as he is by the Carbine sire Spearmint from Lady Star by Polymelus—Beautifui Star. One of the best of the Spear Dunce's in the north is Royal Dance u ho was successfully raced on the. fiat and over I.he sticks by Mr Clothier. who deserved his recent wins if only by reason ol his ad.herencc to the line even when many were by no means singing the praises of Spear Dance.
