DAMAGE TO FOOTPATHS

COMPLAINT FROM OHOPE USED AS ROADWAY Why will certain, persons as ( soon as a public amenity is created endeavour to ruin and destroy it' as quickly as possible ? At the recent meeting of the Whakatane County Council; the Oh ape Progress and Ratepayers' League wrote drawing attention to the damage which is being done to the newly formed footpaths at Ohope by the practice* of certain persons riding their horses over them. It is felt that it would be betteT to erect some barrier, or conspicuous notice which will prevent the formations from being broken up, as there will be little left of the work unless soma protection is given. "The same thing has been done at T'aneatua," said, Cr C. McClready in commenting. "Its quite 3 habit, of certain horsemen and others td ride all over the newly formed! footr paths and break them up without any thought at all for the damage they are doing." The Chairman said that he thought the best method of overcoming the position would be to give the Ohope E.P.S. Wardens the right to report offenders in the future. This course was agreed upon.
