DRAKE'S PRAYER
USED IN SYDNEY RECENTLY Drake's prayer, when England was beset by enemies in the middle of the 16th century, was read in all Anglican churches at Sydney a? part of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving requested by the King. Drake's prayer, although written 354 years ago is particularly appropriate for the crisis through which the Empire is passing. It was contained in a letter which Drake wrote to John Fox, i.n April. 1587. "Wherefore," wrote Drake, "I shall desire you to continue o faithful remembrance of us in your prayers, that our part and service inajr take the effect as God may be glorified, His church and Queen and country preserved, the enemies of truth so vanquished that we will have continual peace in Israel. Our enemies are many, but our Protector eommandeth the whole world. "Let us all pray continually, ana! our Lord-Jesus will hear us in good time merciful 13%"
