EDGECOMBE BRAJlrilf^^l J ANNUAL MEETING" ■ • The aiinual meeting of the cumbe Young Farmers' held recently, when there was attendance. Jamies<Jß reported as follows: — - ; JH This club has had a very siiccesM ful year considering the present dim conditions. There were 22 membejM on the roll at commencement of tl|S year 1940, Ave new members joinecl and two left during the year, tli« present membership being 25. Oil two occasions Ave were" unable tci hold our usual monthly meetings,; because the attendance did not] reach a quorum. Nine monthlys meetings AA r ere held, the average atJ tendance being 10, Avhich was verjl creditable considering the benzinel shortage. The financial position the club is very satisfactory, thef balance sheet shoAA'ing a. credit balance of £8 7s lid. Owing to no urgent business there'Avas only one committee meeting held. In connection witli the yearns progress there* \A*as considerably less recreation and much more business and farming generally discussed. Supper, an innovation, Avas not only very popular but had! a greater effect than Avas anticipated in so far ais it brought the neAV members into general farming discussions.
We have again received much as- . sislance from 'our members and I would like to record here our appreciation for the help and advice they have given us in innumerable ways. The debating activities have again been greatly, assisted by Mr lan Gow, who has not only given the boys more confidence but on" several occasions club members have enjoyed the; use of his home. A motion was put and carried early in the year that club activities outside the club be restricted owing to the shortage of benzine and that the Y.F.C. debating competition be forfeited. However this has inaugurated imprompt speeches and debates, and five-minute, speeches. Mr Reenberg gave an interesting ! lecture of the formation of the Pig, Industry in Denmark and he also supervised the judging of pigs, at a field day, held ati Mr F. Reynolds* farm. The club entered the Y.F.C. Courts at the Whakatane Show and had a very creditable win by a margin of 31 points. The prize money received from this effort was donated to the Edgecumbe Patriotic Committee, In conclusion, I would like io express my appreciation for the help I have received from the secretary and members of the club throughout the year and to thank them for their assistance in making my term in office a really enjoyable one. The adoption of the balance sheet which showed a credit balance of £8 7s lid was carried. Following the usual monthly meeting of the club was held, when, three new members were nominated After the usual business' it was decided that cach member should bring along to the next meeting: (May 14) interesting data, the whole to comprise a record of the development of the Rangitaiki Plains» The meeting closed with supper.
