COMMANDER'S RESIGNATION

MR C, R. WILSON! APPOINTED

When Mr L. B. Savage, who since the Home Guard was formed in the Whakatane district had been Local Commander, transferred temporarily to another town lie was granted leave of absence. Mr Savage has been away from the town for u

longer period than he at first anticipated and has, in view of this fact that also that he is not certain of his future movements, tendered his resignation from his command. In tendering his resignation Mr Savage wrote to Major Herrold, Area Commander as follows:—■ "With reference to the understanding whereby I was granted leave of absence from the Whakatane Home Guard I; feel that, as the duties of Local Commander are being very well carried out by Mr C. R. Wilson,, it would be in the best interests of the Home >Guard if the men in charge of the tvork and carrying the responsibility should also receive the rank to which they are entitled. In order to give effect to this principle 13 respectfully wish to tender my resignation as Local Commander and trust that you will facilitate its acceptance. Needless to say when I return to Whakatane my services will be available in whatever capacity they may be required.

The resignation of Mr Savage was accepted with regret by Major Herrold, who appointed Mir C. R. Wilson to succeed as Local Commander. Notice of the resignation came before the District Committee at its last meeting at Whakatane, when the acceptance of the resignation Avas confirmed,, iand tribute paid to Mr Savage for the great service lie had given the Home Guard.

Mr G. R. Wilson, Local Commander of the Guard, has appointed Mr CL H. Brebner as second in command of the Guard of the district. Parade of Units. The parade of local units of the Guard which was to have been held on April 6, but was postponed owing to weather conditions, is now to be held on Mr Luxton's farm on May 4. At this parade Colonel Aldred, District Commander, and Major Herrold, Area Commander, will be present and will inspect the Guardsmen.
