EDGECUMBE DENTAL CLINIC

Sir, —Congratulations to the Farmers' Union for resolving to keep plugging away at the Government Department concerncd until we get a dental clinic building at Edgeenmbe. Gould you please enlighten householders of the Edgecumbe and nearby districts as to the correct procedure about building dental clinics at country schools ? 11 am acquainted with another locality in the Auckland Province where the people subscribed the money and got a clinic built in the'grounds of a school 12 miles from the nearest big town where there is an old-es-tablished clinic. This new branch clinic serves four country schools As far as I know the four schools had to find all the money, and the people of those districts subscribed liberally—whether they had children or merely broad acres as their stake in the country. I am sure that if it is a case of the people of Edgecumbe, Otakiri and/or adjacent districts being called on -to raise funds there will be plenty of settlers able and willing to give lijberally. Can you please ask some one who knows the regulations if that is not the correct procedure ? And have the Edgecumbe people got any funds in hand or not ? I understand that the Department does not build clinics. That is the job for the school committees concerned. The Department, merely supplies the dental nurseWas that the position when the Whakatane clinic came into being ? These are points on which I and other householders could do with some enlightenment. After all, the Department is likely to help those who are prepared to help themselves » COUNTRY READER.
