PERSONAL

The Rev. and Mrs T. W. Armour (Christchurch) and Mr W.. Goodfellow (Auckland) were guests at the Commercial Hotel last week. At the annual general meeting of the. Public Library held on April 2 the following officers were appointed for the ensuing year : President, Dr. E. Tewsley Dawson; hon. secretary, C. W. Good; hon. treasurer, J. Partridge; committee,. Mesdames Winstone, Keir, Fletcher-Cole.

Mr Simpson (U>S.A.) paid a flying visit to Whakatane last week spending a night at the Commercial Hotel. Mr Simpson, who is a prominent man in the paper-making industry, travelled by, clipper to pay his visit to this country. His business in this town was at the Whakatane Paper Mills.
