FAREWELL FUNCTIONS

MR AND MRS WALKER DEPART

Mr and Mrs Cyril D. Walker left to reside in Auckland on Sunday last. Mr Walker, who for the pa»t 18 months lias been Patrol Officer in Whakatane for the Auckland Automobile Association lias owing to ill-health been forced to accept a position at headquarters.

Prior to their leaving the town Mr and Mrs Walker were entertained by many friends, on Saturday? evening a farewell evening, during which a presentation was made., being held at the residence of D'rj and Mrs Fletcher Cole. Many regrets were expressed at the loss from the community of two residents who had made themselves popular during their term in the town, and in reply Mr Walker expressed the regret he and Mrs Walker felt at leaving Whakatane where they had been very happy.

On Saturday yfternoon Maori friends, members of the Ngatiawatribe, met to bid farewell to Me Walker. References to his popularity Avith the Maori people and thanks for the great help he had been to them Ave re expressed by Messrs J. Keepa and J. Hohapata,the former taking the opportunity to present their guest with a piupiu*.

TEACHER FAREWELLED Mr E. G. M. Parker, who has been head teacher of the Thornton School for the past four years and was previously at Otakiri School for some years, has been appointed head teacher of the Mo-lcai School, south of Rotorua. Mr and M*rS Parker left Thornton last week. On Friday the children of the Thornton School presented Mr Parker with- a pipe and tobacco pouch. - Mr and Mrs Parker were farewellefl by members of the School Committee at a social evening at the home of the secretary, Mir D. O. Murray. Owing to the fact that Mr Parker has had to take up his new position at somewhat 'short notice" - it was not possible to arrange a public social evening.
