PERSONAL

Mr and Mrs J. Rarason, of New Plymouth, are the guests of Mr and Mrs A. J. Canning. Mrs Arthur Bridger left this morning for Auckland and will return with her daughters Gretchen and Pleasance for Easter. The Hon H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Labour, is visiting Whaka:tane and was a guest, at the Commercial Hotel last night. Recently at Nelson seven brothers and a cousin met after 50 years and one of these was Mr L. Hunter, of Whakatane. At the re-union a tally of the accumulated ages of those present was made and this totalled 616 years, the respective ages being L. Hunter (66), R. Hunter (70), JIlunter (76), C. Hunter (74), M.Hunter, (a W. Hunter (86), A. Hunter -4^3), and John Hunter (79). Their parents came to New Zealand in the Thomas Harrison in 1842. .

J The death occurred at Whakatane on Sunday of' Kenneth John (Jack) Garaway, youngest son of Mr and Mrs H. O Garaway, of Whakatane, at the age of 19 years. The late young man, who had not been in good health for about six 'months, for some -time was employed by Mr G. R. Kent, at Whakatane, later taking up employemnt on a sheep station in the Gisbome district, but returning to this town when he had an illness some months ago. He was 'popular in the community and was well known for his pleasant singing voice. The funeral: takes placti at the cemetery to-day. at 2.30 p.m. ~ -i
