FAREWELL EVENING
EVENT AT MATATA A farewell evening was tendered on Thursday, March 20 to Mr R. S. (Toss) Lees, who is going overseas as an air observer in the R.N.Z.A.F. With him was an air force friend Mr Lloyd Clarke, of Auckland, who Avas also farewelled. The Gaiety Boys' Band was in attendance, and items and competitions were arranged throughout the evening. Mr and Mrs E. Naumann won the waltzing competition, and Mrs M. Lees and Mr W. Mortensen Jnr. the Foxtrot. . After supper presentations were made to the two boys, who sui !/ |i ably replied, and dancing continued until 1.30 a.m. Among those present were Mesdames H. Lees, M. Lees, H. Anderson, E. Naumann, B. Magee, L. Marmont, R. Howell C. Plank, Bennett, A. Cummings R. Schick, J. Fraser, C. Wrathall W. Mortensen, Jarrett, H. Burt, A. Wilson, W. Marr, E. Larsen,' J. Taterson,R. Wilson; Misses R. Pattie, D. Warren, M. Burt, V. Gardner, M. Karepe, S. Te Kiri and K|. 'Edwards.
