WAR SERVICE
WOMEN'S AUXILIARY A very well attended meeting of the ladies of the Borough was held, in the King Street Hall on night. Mrs K. Armstrong, chairwoman of the District Committee of the W-W.S.A., presided.
Apologies for absence were received from Mrs T. James and Mrs C. Armstrong.
The chairwoman explained the objects of the auxiliary, and the different work for which members could train. Physical culture and St. John's Ambulance are two essential courses of study.
Mr Brebner addressed the meeting on behalf of the Home Guard, and said they would be willing to help the Auxiliary in any way and also that instructors would be available for drill and marching. Mir Brebner was accorded a hearty vote of thanks
It was decided to form a subcentre of the Auxiliary in Whakatane and the following ladies were elected to the committee : Mrs Dallas, Mrs Winstone, Mrs Rixon, Misses Thomas, M. Bullard and J. Baker. A number of young ladies offered their services as instructors to the Physical Culture classes.
