AIR FORCE MEN
LOCAL CANDIDATES EDUCATIONAL PASSES Seven men of Whakatane and Opotiki have been successful in passing the preliminary educational test and, if passed medically' fit, will be posted to the Ground Training School at Levin within the next few weeks for training as airmen pilots, air observers 01 air gunners. These men are A. E. Coutts, W. R. Dre-nt, W. Higgins, D. G. T. Hills, R. H. Thorn (Whakatane), L. H. Parkinson and.D. N. Potts (Opotiki). Recruits selected for Air Crew are now required to satisfactorily complete a preliminary educational course, owing first to the fact that it brings them up to the necessary standard in mathematics and elementary science if they were at the outset below this standard, and secondly, to the fact that the course includes many matters, such as elementary air navigation, theory of flight, map projections and meteorology, Avhich are included in the course at the Ground Training School and which aid the Avork being done at the Station. Air Force, preliminary' tests are held some six or seA-en times a year on the completion of each course of instruction.
