FALL FROM WINDOW
FATALITY AT OPOTIKI INJURIES CAUSE DEATH "•An unusual and -shocking accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning Avftcn a visitor to Opotiki, Mr Allan Walter Ivan Cameron. a farmer of "'Snowdcn," Mauriccville, near Master ton, fell from a window of the Masonic Hotel, facing Church Street, on to the concrete pavement below. The reason for his falling from the window is unknown but it is understood that deceased was subject to fainting fits, and it is assumed that this may have caused the accident- Medical assistance was quickly summoned and the injured man was removed to the Opotiki Hospital in an unconscious condition. Death occurred at about 8 o'clock on Tuesday morning without consciousness having been regained. Disturbed by a noise a fellow lodger in an adjoining room was the first to notice the accident, finding deceased lying unconscious on the footpath. Mr Cameron, who was a single man aged 40 years, was visiting Opotiki with his, brother, Mr Ivan Donald Cameron also of Mauriceville. Deceased went as far as Taupo for a holiday and was persuaded by his brother to accompany him and his wife to Opotiki. The early part of the evening was spent in looking at the town and later deceased was talking with the barman about a part of London from which they both came. He seemed in good spirits and was delighted at the prospect of going overseas for military service. An inquest was opened on Tuesday before the district coroner, Mr F.'.L Short and was adjourned sine die.
