TRUCK IMPRESSED
COUNTY LOSES VEHICLE DIFFICULTY OF HE PL ACEMENT "The position is that we can't buy a new truck and it is nearly as impossible to get a good second-hand one," remarked Mr J. L. Burnett, chairman of the County Council when reporting at yesterday's meeting that one of the council's motors had been impressed by the Government. Mr Burnett stated that the council had appealed against the impressment, but had not been successful and that one of the mechanics had been sent to Rotorua and had found a 1934 truck for sale at £200. The engineer stated that he had been away' at the time, and he felt that the 1934 vehicle was rather an old make. Trucks up to 1937 models would be free from impressment. The chairman: This is only the first round—they might get it next time. This was not considered likely bv the engineer, who thought the Government had now sufficient vehicles for Army needs. It was decided by the council that the vehicle offering be bought as it appeared extremely difficult to find any vehicles offering.
