THE OHOPE ROAD DEBACLE

LIKE a simmering fire the controversy of the Ohope foreshore road of which many of our readers have become so heartily sick during the past two years, has burst forth again and flames as savagely as ever. The question is one which until it is finally settled one way or the other,, is likely to give Ohopeans headaches for many years, for periodically the road through lack of maintenance falls into such a scandalous state of disrepair that complaints come thiqk and fast until some temporary measure puts off the inevitable day of reckoning once more. The unfortunate part of the whole question is the variation of the facts as they are presented from time to time to members of the public, and we still cling to the belief, as we have said before, that there is yet time for all parties to come to a common understanding by the discovery of a route which will serve the reasonable requirements of all and offend none. The subject is one which is likely to occupy much of the meeting of the Progress and Ratepayers' League, to be held at the Captain's Cabin to-morrow evening, and for that reason it is to be hoped, that all shades of opinion will be represented, and some honest attempt made to finalise the long delayed road question once and for all.
