BRITISH GRIT
"UNCONQUERABLE" EUROPE'S TRIBUTE NAZI GANG HIGHLY ALARMED A remarkable tribute by European peoples to British endurance and courage and to the unbeatable character and toughness of the British race is related by a contributor to the Boston Herald. A Swede who arrived in New York recently told hi'" friends, says the writer, that Adolf Hitlers raciai theories have taken a powerful hold on the people of Europe, hut in quite the opposite direction to that which Hitler designed, for it is the British race that has jumped miles high in the estimation of ali Europe, not the German race, w
Hitler had hoped would' ha])pen. This man is a Swedish business man and has most of the countries of his business affairs during two months. (DUt he has not entered England, France or Norway. He says that the British are positively "gaped at" as -almost supernatural beings by the rest of Europe, for the stoic courage with which ordinary British men and women resist the terror tactics of the Nazi bombers night after night and go about their usual way of life each day. It has stunned the Germans and enthused all the other races in Europe as a new "height" in human courage and endurance. The Viking Sea Blood. He says it really amused him to see how this British super-courage was explained in different countries in Europe in which he happened to travel. The Swedes and Danes said the British race was superior because of the enormous amount of Viking blood in the veins of the British, especially the English. Thousands of hard} 7 , clever Vikings -settled down in England 800 years -ago, and the Normans who conquer cd England m 1066 were themeelves of recent Viking emigration 'from Scandinavia to northern France The Turks, ardent admirers of the British, explained the British superiority over other Christian races (this, you notice, leaves the Turkish race still superior, as it is not a 'Christian race!) by the fact thai they were a seafaring people,, accustomed to think for themselves in the many dangers the stormy oceans can suddenly confront sailors with e -all over the world.
Germans Ascribe it to Religion. ■ 'S But fffcs Swede says that the rea son for the superiority of the British race that was told him by hi* German friends ir. Germany surprised him most. These Germans assured him that the reason the British race was and is unconquerable (he swears these were the words the German friends in Berlin used to him) is because the British have always been a religious race, with n firm belief in a Higher Power that will give them so much spiritual and mental aid in any great trial which they have to pass through that thej are certain to win against any enemy in the end Alarm of Nazi Inner Gang He was greatly struck recently, he says, by Rudolph Hess (Hitler's •"other self" and his closest friend), giving a talk on the radio, which Avas reported in American newspapers. Hess vehemently shouted that "Divine Providence hated the British and had turned away from England, but, on the contrary; God had blessed Germany by giving the Germans Adolf Hitler for their Fuehrer and showed His protection and love for the Germans he •gave to them over their enemies." This Swede now says he feels certain that the Nazi inner gang are highly alarmed at the growing belief among average German man-in-the-str«jet that the' British tire a superior race, under the direct protection of Divine Providence, •and are unconquerable bccause helped by a supernatural Powfcr.
