SCRAP IRON SHIPMENT

CONSIGNMENT FROM ISLANDS RECOVERY FROM WRECK In response to a public appeal a considerable quantity of scrap metal has been collected and is being forwarded to New Zealand,, states the Rarotonga correspondent of the ■United Press Association. The old lead collected has been melted down and a weight of over one ton of pig lead is being forwarded. *In addition, there are 18741b of scrap brass, copper, bronze and zinc. Some of the metal was obtained by. divers from the wleck of the Maiai, which lies at the entrance to the main harbour of Avarua. The* consignment is to be sold and the proceeds paid to the National. Patriotic Fund nnd a further donation from people of Rarotonga to the war effort.
