WOMEN'S AUXILIARY DISTRICT COMMITT KE'S ACTIVITIES The first meeting of the Dis- . trict Committee of the Women's War Service Auxiliary was held on Thursday morning in the Borough Council Chambers. Tliere were, present Mrs A. G. Hultquist official member of mittec appointed by Minister of National Service, Mrs K. Armstrong (Whakatane) convener, Mrs H. A. Burgess (Whakatane), Mrs W. B. Gow (Eklgecumbe), Mrs E. H. Hill (Taneatua), Mrs: H. Wardlaw (Waimana), Mrs K. Caverhill (Matata), Mrs T. Smith (Te Teko), Mrs W-. McDonald (Awakeri). Mrs Iv. Armstrong was appointed chairwoman and Mrs Hultquist vice chairwoman, Mrs Burgess to act as sccrctary. Objects of Auxiliary. 1. The objects of the Auxiliary are to get every woman and girl in the Dominion doing or training to help in the National War Effort. 2. To fully co-ordinate the activities of women's organisations throughout the Dominion so that the maximum assistance' can be extended to the nation and Government during the war period. 3. To enrol and register women willing to undertake National Sjervice and to allot them to whatever duties may be found suitable and necessary. 4. To advise and assist the Minister of National Service in all matters concerning the efficient utilisation of the services of women in the prosecution of the Dominion's War Effort. 5. Generally to undertake and carry on the purposes of the Auxilas set out. The organisation covers a wide scope of activities, transport, bicycle motor, despatch corps, emergency hospital work,, canteen workers, signallers, farm workers, herd testing, factory munition workers, seamstresses, and knitters, mother's help. Sub-Centres Formed 1 . Sub-centres will be formed in the following country districts ? Taneatua, Waimana, Edgecumbe, Matata, Awakeri, Te Teko and Whakatane.

Meetings will be called to folium their sub-committees . and for that purpose a meeting will be held in the King Street Hall to-night at 7.30' p.m. and at Bell's Hall, Edgecumbe on Thursday afternoon at 2,30 p.m. Thornton and Otakiri ladies are asked to get in touch with Eldgecumbe District Committee member if possible. Enrolment cards can be obtained from any member of the District Committee. A depot will also be opened in the Strand.
