NEW POLICY
GRAND THEATRE'S INNOVATION*
COMMENCES NEXT MONTH
Mr S. E. Little, Manager of Whakatane Amusements Ltd. announces that commencing next month tlie Grand will show single feature programmes every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with a hand selected first half -consisting: of every conceivable type of subject from slap-stick comedies to lavish musical and educational subjects including the latest news reels per Air Mail, featuring closcups of all important development? of the war, in fact the finest array of short subjects procurable to-day.
The big picture screened on these programmes will be in most caseia showing for the first time in New Zealand and the public young and old alike are assured of bright popular entertainment that will appeal* to all tastes. In addition patrons are invited to write in to the. manager and suggest any picture they 4 would like brought back and if particular picture is obtainable it will be include! in coming attrac-* tions at the Grand, the pictures polling the most requests being revived . The management assures that this; new policy will meet with the ap j proval of patrons as it Avill be a refreshing change from the usual! double feature programmes. On. Saturday, Monday and Tuesday asi usual two big pictures will be shown, presenting an aggregation of Star Power unequalled.
Here is a brief resume of some of the entertaining supports to be shown at the Grand: —
"Sunday Round-up." Magnificent outdoor scenery filmed in technicolour featuring Dick Foran, the singing cowboy. "King of the Islands." Beautiful South Sea Island scenery filmed in techniGolour ■with a elever Hltie story running throughout that displays the scenery to its best advantage whilst the singing of Winifred Shaw adds also to its charms.
"Land of the Midnight Sun." Norway, in the news to-day, what could be more appropriate than screening this short showing Norway as it is and was, the mountains and glaciers the people at their daily persuits ?
"Nut Guilty." The inimitable team of Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy provide some of the funniest gags you'll ever hear. A knockout comedy with a pair of names that spells popularity.
"Check Your Cash."' Luis Zingine, famous magician, shows how to
heat a card sharp at his own game. A novel and revealing short subject, with an acknowledged trixster of card manipulation.
"Reg'lar Kids." The most popular short of the year has proven tc be World's Fair Junior, screening with the "Old Maid," and here is another group of kiddies in 18 acts of whirlwind vaudeville. Filmed ii» tcchnicolour. "Changing of the Guard." Nothing could he more ' timely to-day than to screen a short of the handing over of guard duty on Buckingham Palace. See all this with Sybil Jason, in technicolour.
"Vacation. Spots."' Showing thevarious natural paradises of the tourist and pleasure seeker in the United States, with a sequence done in natural colour.
"Big Time Vaudeville."" Fast paced vaudeville at its best, comedy, songs, juggling acrobatic pantomime, all are included in these one reel melanges 01 the headline entertainers from variety. Here is a brief resume of some. "Bring on the Girls," popular Charlie McCarthy as Master of Ceremonies introduces three top-notch acts. 18 Mel— odv Master Bands . . . Spiced with novelty, singing and dancing . . •
and beautiful girls. "Vitaphone Diversions," Four Ace-acts.
"Headline Hunters." Here is the greatest short ever produced. "Wa defy vou not to chill to these action, packed, .thrill-punched featurettes.
