A SCOTTISH NIGHT
EVENT AT TE TEKO FIRST OF GOODWILL INGLESIDES The first of the programme of Goodwill Inglesides instituted by the Whakatane Caledonian Society was held on Wednesday night, when Tc T'eko was treated to "a braw Scottish nieht." The large attendance signified that the gesture of the Society was a popular one and that there was a wide, desire to foster Scottish customs in the country districts. The Pipe Band was heard in the street in the early part of the evening and the selections played soon attracted a large' audience. The evening's programme opened when Piper W. Stewart played the chief, Mr J. W. Simons into the hall, and the latter then briefly welcomed those present. Old time dances interspersed with items provided the entertainment, Mr S. West, proving a very capable M.C. The items which- earned the appreciation of the attendance were given as follows: Miss Mollie Armer (scan truibhas); Mrs Kingsley (elocution; "The Bairnies Cuddle Doon" and "The Dutchman's Baby"); Misses J. and R. Howat (tap dance); Miss Betty Flavell (Irish Washerwoman's Jig, Waltz Tap and Highland Fling); and Master Walton, a junior member of the band, rendered two bagpipe solos. Piping for Highland dances was provided by Piper W. Howat.
