MILITARY TIME TELLING
i READERS PUZZLED 1830 NOT AN ERROR n a paragraph in our last issue i time of parade for a unit of the >mc Guard was given in military de and on reading that the plam would parade at 1830 hours my readers were puzzled. In fact tny were quite certain that an ror had been made on our part. »wever, those with relatives in the my would be aware thijdjfeie time the services is taken 3rom mid*ht to midnight covering the 24 urs and of the figures given the st two represent hours and • tlxe ;t two the minutes. Thus 1830 hours mearis 18 hours d 30 minutes from midnight which 6.30 p.m. Midnight is 0000 hours lile 0005 means five minutes past reive: a.m. and 2355 is equivalent five minutes before midnight, le use of four noughts is rare in e army and usually one minute ter midnight is given (0001 hours) ■ one minute before (2359 hours). These times are now being used r the Home Guard which, of urse, is part of the military mache and for that reason, when rough our columns a notice was ven to Guardsmen, it was done ~o the style which is used in all options -of fhe -services. ■
