WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

. WAIMANA ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Wai- ; mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute was held in the Waimana Hall last Wednesday afternoon, when the president (Mrs N. Clark) presided over a good attendance of members. The report and balance sheet were presented and adopted, and general business matters dealt with. The election of officers for the ensuing' year resulted as follows: — I - President: Mrs Hewitt; Committee: Mrs C. Wylde, Mrs F. Savage, Mrs -'I. Savage, Mrs Marra, Mrs Gallagher, Mrs Stevenson, Mrs T. Wardlaw, Mrs Hughes, Mrs E. A. Bell, Mrs A. K. Bell, Mrs John Addison . Mrs Woolficld expressed the regret of the members at the refusal of Mrs Clark to accept the position as President for another and -presented her with a gift in appreciation of her work for the Institute for the past year. The annual report and balance sheet showed that in addition to the ■usual business the Institute had raised over £140 since August for the local Patriotic fund which is a feat for any Institute to be proud of. Mrs Woolfield also welcomed to the clrair Mrs G. Hewitt the new president, and expressed the feeling,

-of all members that the Institute is indeetl fortunate that she accepted the office. Mrs Woolfield then presented the secretary, Mrs Wylde, with a gift from the members in appreciation of her services as secretary. All suitably replied. . * - Mrs Clark piesented the prizes for the year which were: Points Prize: Mrs G. Hewitt; v Points Best Flower: Mrs T. Ward- . law; Points Vegetable: Mfrs "Black; Cons«HMon Prize (given byi Mrs Clark) t. jh by Miss M. Woolfield. A competition was won by Miss Mt. "Woolfield and a rug given by Mrs Black was annexed by Mrs N. IBell. The hostesses, Mesdames Jeram,, "Hughes, Marra and Gallagher and Miss M. Hughes served a delicious •; afternoon tea and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. The competitions were won as 'follows: —Best. Flower. Miss M. Wardlaw 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs Black "3. Best Vegetable: Mrs C. Wylde 1, Mrs H. Wardlaw 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. Embroidered Traycloth: Mrs I. Savage 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs T. Wardlaw 3. Jam. Roll: Miss Wardlaw 1, Miss Hughes 2, Mrs T. Wardlaw 3.
