SIR HARRY BATTERBEE CONFIDENT OF VICTORY "The next few months are going to be the most critie.il in the hostory of our Empire," said Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner in New Zealand for the United Kingdom, speaking at the opening of the Taranalti Metropolitan Show. "I am convinced that Nazi power is shortly going to make its most desperate efforts both against Britain and alons> the Mediterranean." he said. "I am also /convinced that Britain will emerge victorious, but not before she has put everything ;n and been tested almost to the limit." If trouble came to the Pacific the people of New Zealand would meet any threat in the same confident spirit as the people in Britain,, said Sir Harry, but, in the meantime, it was well to be piiepared for any eventuality. In England the Home Guard was doing a wonderful work. It was a second army, well trained and equip lied. At Wellington he saw a trial of the emergency precautions scheme organisation and was impressed by the efficiency displayed.
