ACCIDENT VICTIMS
FOUR MEN HURT VARIETY OF MISHAPS Four local men are inmates of the local hospital at present being the "victims of accidcnts which occurred during the past two days. All arc . progressing satisfactorily. Struck by Falling Tree. While working in the bush handy to Whakatane yesterday, a falling tree caught Mr R. Gurney and as a result he suffered concussion, severe abrasions to the back and a fracture • of the right collarbone. His condition last evening was reported as satisfactory. Hit by Lorry. Mr David Mickell, a Public Works Department employee who is engag'ed in quarry work locally, was knocked over by a lorry on Monday and suffered shock and abrasions. His condition is satisfactory. Accident With Axe. Whilei ch'oppTng wood yesterday, Mr Leonard Wilson, of Edgecumbe, j ■struck his left leg in front the ankle with a hatchet inflicting a severe cut. After receiving attention «t the local hospital he is making good progress. Mishap at Mill. Aji employee of the Whakatane Paper Miills while operating a rewinding press received injuries yesterday which necessitated his admittance to the local hospital. His right arm to the elbow Avas severely bruised while a cut was received on the shoulder as a result of contacting a slitter. He also is making .good progress towards recovery. MOTOR ACCIDENT LORRY HITS POWIER POLE CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE About £-10 of damage was done when a motor lorry struck a power pole in Whakatane yesterday. Apparently no injury to persons resulted .
It is understood that the lorry was driven by a native, and that enquiries are being made by the local police..
