MEETING AT AWAKERI COMMITTEE RE-ELECTED Twenty suppliers were present When the annual meeting of the Rangitaild Plains Bobby Calf Pool was held on Thursday evening. Mr -C. R. Wilson presided and also in attendance was Mr N. Hastings, representing the P.M.A. Mr Hastings addressed the meeting on the working of the P. Mi. A. imparting some interesting information and satisfactorily answering a ■number of questions. He refererd to the collapse of the skin market stating that the fall from 17d to 8d to "9d was the result of the collapse of France in the war. However, the subsequent recovery in the price - was the result of America becoming a ♦market. The* average price realised •over the season had been 13.0 yd. During the year the weight of skins had be'en increased by the introduction of a new method of preparing them with the result that the average added was %lb.
In connection with costs Mr Hastings was pleased to report that these had been reduced in spite of the general tendency for a risei in that direction and the advance in carriers' charges. He added that oO per cent of the value o;f the bobby calves went in costs amounting to 4s fid on each animal. Speaking of the veal trade l>intimated that the average weight been 14 to 171bs with the price at 5%d. That the P.M. A. was handling sixty-one pools in the Dominion w 7 as another interesting fact conveyed,, this number representing one-third of the pools Committee Elected. The committed was re-elected en block, the members being Messrs C. R. Wilson (chairman), W. A. McCracken, S. C. Spence, lan B. Gow\ "E. A. Haultain, Andrew McLean* Tvan Withy.
