BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED

Miss Kathleen McCracken, of Edgecumbe, avlio is to be married to-mor-row has been Ihe guest of honour recently at several social functions.

The first was a kitchen tea given hor by her Whakatane friends where

she Avas the recipient of an autographed cookery book and articles for her kitchen and pantry. Miss McCracken and her mother were presented with floral emblems.

Thosa present were: Mrs W. A. McCracken, Mrs B. S. Barry,. Mrs G. Brebner, Mrs R. Hill, Mrs J. SliaAv (Edgecumbe), Mrs F. Gartshire, Mrs G. Otley, Mrs TeAVSley DaAvson, Mrs R. Boon, Mrs H. Searle, Mrs Allan Smith (Awakeri), Misses M. O'Brien, D. Boon, A. Clark, M. Whiteside and Yardlay.

On Saturday afternoon last at the Matata Maori meeting-house the Maori ladies of Matata entertained Miss McCracken in appreciation of her mother's services (Mrs W. A. McCracken) to them. Here she received handsome additional articles for her kitchen.

Part songs, hakas, and individual items added to the enjoyment of the afternoon and a chant of welcome and advice in Maori was given to the bride-to-be.

A special gift was presented by the Paroa Maori people sponsored by Mrs Hohapata and her daughter, Mrs Puke Tahi. This was in appreciation of Mrs McCracken's work for the Maori people, during the last 27 years. The presentation consisted of a beautiful korowai (feathered shoulder mat) and a piu-piu.

Miss McCracken, in a suitable speech, thanked the donors.

She was also entertained- byi the staff of the Edgecumbe School where she was made a presentation by Mr Patience, headmaster.

Miss McCracken was also entertained by the staff of the Whakatana Primary School.

Still another gesture to Miss McCracken's popularity Avas evidenced last evening, wlicn Messrs Plaice and Radcliffe arranged a sur-> prise party at her home. About 30 of the young people, of Edgecumbe, were present, Mrs McCracken receiving the guests in a becoming gown of mulberry crepe, Miss McCracken was dressed in a pretty floral silk. The 3 T :oung folks passed a most, enjoyable evening with music, games, competitions etc, Mr Cedrie Corbett fiance of the bride-to-be assisting in the entertainment.

Miss McCracken was presented with an elactric iron, and a pretty bouquet of flowers arranged by Miss M. Whiteside. A pleasant evening ended with a suitable reply of thanks
