NEW HIGH SCHOOL
OPOTIKPS NEW BUILDING
The new Opotiki District Higlx School was unofficially opened on Tuesday when the first term commenced. Thus the secondary departments after nearly twenty years, spent in the old school buildings has moved to a new home. Higlt school educatioji was first started in Opotiki in 1922, when it was under the instruction of Mrs F. J. Ward,' who had 32 pupils under her chargeThe headmaster at that time was Mr H. B. Wilson. Since that time the, roll has been trebled and four assistants are now employed.
With the opening of the new school which means great progress in secondary education in Opotilri, students will receive greatly improved facilities which should tend to raise the standard of secondary education. For seme time conditions at the old school have been rather difficult through lack of space, and the difficulties were further increased when it was found necessary to move Classes to a hall.
For many years to come there should be no lack of space at the new school. *
