RAGING NOTES

A Top Sprinter. Judging by Ihc weights now being allotted him 10.0 Pirate King must be regarded as one of the Dominion's best sprinters. It can be said in his favour that he carries big weights well, but still prefers a fairiy dry track. Re-commissioned. Brazilian, a successful performer in the 1939>-40 racing season has been put into Avork again ; at Ellerslie by Ivan Tucker. He is partial to damp tracks, so during the autumn may again get in the winning list. A Wide Range. In the Arawa Park Stakes at the Rotorua meeting the weights range from 7.0 to 10.10, the latter poundage being allotted to Dinky Di, who won at Ellerslic with 7.5, the run-ner-up being Pirate King, 9.11. It would have been interesting to note the weight that might have been awarded the latter, but it may have been in the proximity of 13.0. Beau Vite and Kindergarten. Miany sportsmen throughout the Dominion are awaiting the next appearance with the colours up of Beau Vite and Kindergarten. The first named was to have been sent over to Australia, but owing to trans port difficulties may have tho trip delayed, and this means that there may soon be a meeting between the illustrious pair of thoroughbreds. Heroic Star Improving. Heroic Star, the latest addition to the Nicholson-Davis team, is improving with racing, and during the round of the country circuit meetings may make good. This team, hitherto one of the best in Auckland, is not in full strength just now, for Jack Tar, Gamos, and Te Kawiti are on the easy list, while Foxola is being allotted a brief holiday. High Weight Handicap. j Evidently high weight races in I which hurdle horsemen occupy the saddle, are becoming more popular. At Rotorua no less than 2(j horses have been entered for the Pohutu High-weiglit, including Happy Ending, a winner at Trcntham recently. It is worthy of note that Erination, who two seasons ago carried 13.5 to victory in hurdle events*, has been allotted the minimum, 9.0. He should appreciate the concession, as a tribute to age. The Rotorua Cup. Twenty-three entries have been received for the Rotorua Cup to be run on Saturday. Form is represented by Cornish, Llangollen, Greek I Queen, Foxsen, Raratonga, Pern, Forest Acre and The Dozer, while the remaining 15 have not yet loomed large in the racing world this. season even in minor events. Among those in at the minimum are Queen City, hitherto regarded as a sprinter, and Aero King, who may perform ercclitablv over a distance. Llangollen for Rotorua. After running in the Auckland Cup on Boxing Day, Llangollen was somewhat tender in front, and was consequcnth r allowed a brief respite from work. She must have quickly made a satisfactory recovery, for she is in the Rotorua Cup with 9.0, and in the Tourist Handi- j cap with 9.1. As the racing tracks not now on the hard side the r Ace: —Llanberis mare may not be Long in adding to her Avinning list , which has already assumed goodly j proportions.
