QUESTION OF FINANCE
PIAKO COUNCIL'S VIEWS Expressing the opinion that, although the Rural Housing Act, according to the Minister of Housing, was simple and designed' to help the farmer, the council was still in the dark as to the procedure for obtaining finance, Mr W. .C. Kennedy, at last week's Piako County Council meeting, said that the onus was on the State Advances Department to see that the loan money which had been, approved by the council was made available. Loan Applications. Approximately 20 applications for loans have been approved by the council, but so far notification from the Department concerning provisional subsidies fox only two of these have been received. Mr W'. A; Rush ton enquired whether a man who had had his application endorsed by the council and who had proceeded with the erection of his property, before the re-< ceptiom of the loen would run the risk of losing the subsidy. Mr Kennedy said that it would be wise if applicants were to 'wait until confirmation of their subsidies G«aranteeid Grants. , All th» ratepayers were responsible by guarantees for all loans that were granted, declared Mr D. J. Burgess. An applicant whose claim for a loan under the Act had been refused might object to paying, a special rate in order to meet possible, defaults of those to whom loans had be cm granted.
