"THAT NEW ROAD AT OHOPE"

Sir, —Your columns are full of doings at Ohopo. "Those few" are at it again. Their number is not more than four. They have a leader and it is easy to pick him. They have formed a pact: apparently they have sworn to stick together, to come again and again, and to do their utmost. Their objective undoubted- 1 ly is to force a road through Mr Runnerstrum's beautiful garden—the very thing we are most proud of. That garden is the greatest asset the beach lias. It is surprising how many residents and strangers get delighted in visiting that beauty spot. It is without doubt the finest beach garden in New Zealand and Mr Runnerstrum takes the greatest pleasure in showing his garden to both rich and poor. Then Mr Runnerstrum himself is the greatest man the beach has. His purse is always open to help deserving objects and those that know him best know what a fine sport he is: . as when he provided free ice-cream and prizes for the kiddies' sports on New Year's Day.

Seemingly from envy and for cussed spite "those few" have set themselves to bush a road through the beautiful garden. Luckily we other section owners will have a say and our County Council will have the last say. I trust to the members of the County Council to save Mr Runncrstrum's garden from spoilation.

Thanks to our County Council the loading at Ohope is now most satisfactory. I have heard complimentary remarks from all sides, even from "those four." Then why arc "those four" worrying and forcing along the dedication of a new road. Yours etc., 1 TO 58. P.S, The two lordly poliutukawas would have to go to make the proposed road. What a calamity, if thev were cut down!
