A WET JANUARY
LARGEST RAINFALL FOR MANY YEARS
RECORD ESTABLISHED AT
EDGECUAIBE
Rain fell on 15 days of January in Whakatane to total for the month 10.18 inches, 2 points less than the heaviest fall recorded, that of the year 1925. At Edgecumbe the rainfall recorded constituted a record for January, Mr A. McLean, the observer, stating that the fall was greater for the initial month of the year than any recorded byt him for the past six years.
The total for the month in that district reached 11.29 inches, rain falling on 13 days and the largest recording being 1.(>6 inches on Jan-
