APPEAL FOR VOLUNTEERS
"The; Fire Service branch of the Emergency Precautions Scheme is well on the way to completion,'' stated Superintendent F. 11. Stewart, of the Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade on his return from Wellington last week, "and Whakatane residents can rest assured that the Fire' Board of this town will leave no stone unturned to afford the necessary protection." Superintendent Stewart, at the request of the local Fire Board journeyed to Wellington on Tuesday last to attend a conferencc of Fire Superintendents representing the whole of the Dominion, and the discussions were of an urgent nature, the chief business being the finalising of the Fire Service branch of the Emergency Precautions Scheme. Superintendent Stewart makes an earnest appeal for volunteer auxiliary firemen and fire police and applications for such positions will be received at the Fire Station on Tuesday next or at the Town Clerk's office.
