RAGWORT IN BLOOM

Sir.—This is the season for ragwort to bloom, and golden patches are to be seen in all directions as one travels round the district. What a pity all occupiers of land would not get a few pounds of killer which :>ur County Council reat the price of salt or flour. A pinch of this on odd plants, preferably before they are in bloom, and hey presto! another ragwort bit the dust. I have been busy with a tin of sodium chlorate off and on since winter and see ithat no ragwort plants; get a bloom on my place, but I over , the fences to deal with healthy ragwort plants on surrounding properties where there are absentee owners and sharemilkers in occupation. • I see some ftood yellow ragwort blossom on the Lands Department's reserves near Thornton Beach. Nobody's business that apparently, as the Government Departments and the King can do no wrong, A few years ago the County Council had an inspector who went round and stirred up people, with ragwort in bloom. Nowadays nothing seems to be done. Perhaps it is not too late for the County Council to shake up its negligent ratepayers who have those odd ragwort plants in bloom. Remember that one -year's seeding means seven years weeding or 77 in the case of ragwort. Yours etc., HAG WORT RANCHER*
