MAORI INITIATIVE AT RUATOKI
WHEN the 'Ruatoki Boxing* Day Sports were first mooted no one anticipated that the committee behind the event would be enabled as a result to pay in just on £100 towards the 'Patriotic Funds Committee,, thus enabling that distinct to reach its quota and still retain a little in hand. Ruatoki has in the past shown its own individual enterprise in recruiting and in money-raising for war purposes and it speaks highly for the settlement that its communal and organising propensities make it possible for it to .bring success to all its undertakings. Here is yet another instance in which our Maori friends have set the example and their effort deserves the warmest commendation.
Council's Interests Protected. The South British Insurance Company, writing the Whakatane Borough Council in connection with the claim made by L. W. Ormond, stated that the council's interests would he protected. Credit not £8. In Monde's issue, dealing with the financial position of the New Year's Eve Carnival Committee, we inadvertantly printed the fact that the credit after meeting all expenses was £8. This is incorrect, the true position being 8/-, no more aijd no less.
