VALUE OF AEROPLANE
PEACE TIME PURSUITS ambulance and ship work Adequate proof of a fact frequently forgotten at present, the value of aeroplanes in peacf. as well as in war, lias been given in Rotorua during the past week when Mr S. Ji. Blackmore has made three long flights on urgent business. Two- of these have been on ambulance work and the third enabled a ship that would otherwise have been stranded for several days, to proceed according to schedule from one of the secondary ports. One afternoon last week at the Twuranga aerodrome, Mr Blackmore received advice to proceed to Auckland to take a Diesel engine expert to Gisborne where a vessel was delayed owing to engine trouble. Despite very rough, flying conditions over the Motu hills, the trip was completed, and the plane returned to Rotorua before dark. Last week ambulance flights were made by the same pilot between Auckland, and Gisborne and Rotorua- and Wellington.
