MONEY FOR TROOPS

NO INCREASE AT PRESENT

In a letter to the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, ha;; stated that it has been found inadvisable to increase the amount which may be remitted from New Zealand to members of the Forces overseas, but the matter would be reconsidered later. He said that if circumstances permitted, the Government would be happy to allow a larger remittance than £20 a year in New Zealand currency. However, in view of the need to conserve funds for the purchase of essential supplies, it was necessary to control all remittances from New Zealand. The Minister added that arrangements had been made,, whereby -additional funds were available through the Reserve Bank to meet special cases, which would be subject to consideration on their individual merits.
