RACING NOTES

Government Taxation. The Government taxation paid by the Auckland Racing and Trotting Clubs in connection Avith their holiday meetings totalled £58,000. Trig Station Wins. The Waikato bred Trig Station by Surveyor, recently purchased bv Mr A. Lile, of Taranaki, Avon the Flying Handicap at New Plymouth in such com-incing style that further victories for him in the near future are confidently expected. A Big Dividend. At the Taranaki fixture, Vernette, a member of the R. BarloAV stable i ' won the Juvenile Handicap in her first start. The dividend, oA r er three- ! quarters of a century, Avas not participated in by the stable, as it Avas I naturally considered the filly Avould require more education in public. Track Not Favourable. Gold Money Song ran fourth in the Raihvay Handicap on Boxing Day, and filled a similar position on Thursday in the BoAven Handicap. Both performances were meritorious Avlien the fact is taken into consideration that the Hunting Song— Gold Money representative gallops much more freely on soft tracks. Dispersal Sale. At Trentham this month the racing stock and brood marcs oAvned by Mrs R. T. Reid, of Hamilton, Avill be submitted for sale by auction. The list includes Beau Repairc, Marshall Hall, Olympus and Laughing Fox. It would not be surprising if the first named is secured for Australia, where the Beau Pere's are naturally A 7 ery highly apprised. Wellington Cup and Telegraph. The nominations received for the Wellington Cup to be run on 16' th number 32. The Auckland district entrants are Kindergarten, Gladynev Proud Fox, Beau Leon, Orelio and Greek Queen. Twenty-four entries have been listed for the sprint event including Arvakur, Corato, Marshall Hall, Duvacli, Black Thread and Kentucky. Arvakur Improving. One of the most improved horses at Takanini is the Beau Pere —jThe Begum representative Arvakur. His third in the Raihvay Handicap was a good performance and on his sulisequent running at the meeting he shoAved plenty of speed. lif he enters the sprint contests at Trentham he is sure to be spiritedly supported by Auckland sporting circles. A High Rank Tohoroughbred. The Kincardine—Valadore representative, Kindergarten, by Avinning the Auckland Christmas Handicap in a field of 20,. running the mile in 1.36 2-5, and later emerging victorious in the Great Northern Derby, one mile and a half in 2.31, Avill now have the considered attention of the handicappers. It will be interesting to learn in tlue course what j apportionment the Gisborae owned j colt Avill have for the Wellington Cup contest this month. Running of Belle Cane. One of the disappointments at the Auckland meeting Avas Belle Cane, by Beau Pere —Duck's Egg. At the Canterbury meeting in November she Avas acclaimed the fastest three year old filly the Dominion had seen since the days of the brilliant Silver Scorn. It Avas generally admitted that she did not have the best of luck in the N-Z. Derby. J Hit Avon the N.Z. Oaks, and just before leaving for Auckland scored in the Manawatu Cup. In her tAA'o races at Ellerslie she Avas never prominent in the running, but Avill have an opportunity of making amend* at Trentham a fortnight hence.

The Best Two-year-old. • Up to the New Year it Mas generally admitted that the Dominion's best two-year-old this season had not been definitely agreed upon. At the Auckland meeting, however, Route March, by Vaals from Royal March, won the Great Northern Foal Stakes and the Royal Stakes so the honour has now been accorded him. In the earlier part of the season Route March had a penchant for running out very wide in the home run but latterly has been 'finishing on in line and his speed together with gameness of a high order, has resulted in him being a good Avinner. He is owned by Mr S. J. Wood, of Auckland, who also has Proud Fox running in his colours. Both are trained by F. Smith at Takanini.
