WEDDING
HYLAND—VILLIS
A very pretty wedding was solemnised at St. George's Church, Whakatane, oit Saturday evening-, December '28th,, when Veronica Blanche., only daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Vilis of Edgceumbe and John Garwood, third son of Mr A.- Hyland of Thornton, were joiined in holy wedlock. The Rev. S. G. Caul ton was the officiating minister and Mrs Fraser played the wedding music. The bride who entered the church 011 the arm of her father, made a charming picture in her gown of ivory satin and lace, which was fashioned with narrow panels of lace inset the whole length, widening at the hem line and falling into a grace fui oval train. The lace sleeves Ave re long forming a point over each hand ami the V neckline Avas finished with a cluster of pearls. Her silk tulle bridal veil avas worn Avith a halo of orange blossoms, and Avas bordered Avith point lace 1 . The bride earned a slioAVcr bouquet of St. Joseph's lilies and sweet peas and also wore a goikl armlet, the gift of the bridegroom. Two Bridesmaids, Miss Ann Carling and Miss Lila Black attended the bride. They Avore ankle length georgette frocks of cyclamen and pale green respectively and earricd bouquets of pr.stel tinted swee't peas and wore, -flo Avers to tone in their hair. They also Avore gold armlets gifts from the bridegroom. A little floiwe'r girl, Ann Hyland looked s»veet in a dainty frock of apricot georgette, and carried a basket of pastel s>weet peas. The bouquets ■were* artistically made by Mrs H. Branch of Rotorua. The bi'M c g room was attended by Mr Geoffrey Robins as best man and Mr Russell Wilkins and Mr Douglas Branch as
groomsmen. After the ceremony, a reception was held in the Edgeeumbe Hall, Mrs Yillis receiving her guests in a smart tea blue ensemble with hat to tone and she canicd a bouquet of red car rations and sweet peas. The hall and tables had been tastefully decorated with flowers of pink and mauve and white, while; a large white wedding bell was suspended over the happy young couple A beautiful three tiered wedding cake occupied the place of honour and a hundred guests were seated around the tables. Mr Robins carried out the duties of toastmaster in a very able manner. The usual toasts Avere honoured and the telegrams of good ■wishes from many absent frienls were read. The bride then cut ♦.he cake and after it had been distributed, the tables Avere removed and dancing to the music of the Gaietj* Boy's Band was enjoyed until midnight. Thai newly wed couple were the recipients of numerous costly presents from relatives and friends. The pres ents were on display. Mi and Mrs J. Hyland have the good, wishes of a very large circle of friends. They left for a honeymoon tour to Russell, the bride choosing a pctwdei blue ensemble, fur-<trimined, with black accessories. WADDELI GARRAWAY A wedding of local interest took place in the Knox Church on Satur-< day, December 21st, Avhen Alison, second daughter of Mr and Mrs H. O. Garaway, Whakatane, av:»s married to John Reid Wadde.ll, only son of Mrs H. M. Waddell, Timaru. Bowls of hydrangeas, dahlias, gladioli and gerberas in shades of pink and Avhite AA r ere very attractively arranged in the Church. The service Avhieh was choral Avas conducted by the Re\ r .
H. Hogg, arid-Mr R. C. Hill played tire Avedding music. Escorted by her father, the bride looked charming in a gowni of figured ice Avhite satin,, with SAveetheart neckline and long slceA'es falling in points over the Avrists. The skirt Avas fully fashioned Avitli a bustle effect Avhieh formed a train. Her veil was held in place with.a coronet of orange blos r som and she carried a sheaf of St, Joseph lilies and 'gladioli. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrss Nornh Garaway as bridesmaid anil Jeimife.r Corney as flower girl. They Avere similarly attired in frocks of rose crinkle georgette Avith top knots and matching bouquets of pink gladioli and rose buds respectively. The groom Avas attended by Mr Athol Garaway as best man and Messrs Jim Eraser and Carlton Kerr were ushers. The reception Avas held at the home of the bride's parents, King Street, Avhere Mrs Garaway received her guests wearing a frock of Avine crepe rommaine. She carried a posy ol' carnations in cvcianien tonings. The bride left AA-earing a marina blue ensemble with navy accessories.
