NAVAL MEN FAREWELLED ]'RESENTAT] ONS MADE True to its policy tliat all men on Jinal leave should be the guests at a civic J'are\vcll whether their numI hers he great or small, the local Farewell Committee staged an informal gathering in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, when three members of the N.Z. Squadron of the Royal Navy were honoured by the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry and other representatives of the town. The men were Messrs R. B. Bunn, A. Harris and F. O'Brien, all of whom have joined the Navy as experienced telegraphists.
Mr Barry extended the good wishes of the town and district and apologised for the absence of Mr Raymond, president of the R.S.A. Other speakers were Messrs S. 8. Shapley (president of the Farewell Committee), L. Wood (postmaster) and J. Bullard (R.S.A.). Mr Barry then presented each with an Eversliarp pencil on behalf of the committee, and a further gift from the Ladies' Patriotic Committee. The recipients suitably responded expressing their appreciation.
