RACING NOTES
Early Withdrawals. Yogi and Gladvnev have thus early been withdrawn from the-Auck-land Cup field. Several of the minimum weighted candidates may be taken out within the next few days. Stable Additions. The latest additions to R„ H. Martin's Matamata team are the four-year-old mare by Bronze Eagle from Lad?" Surft and a two year old filly by Musketoon—Pleasure Craze. Aucklaud Cup Candidate. The Canterbury mare Wardress, who ran sixth in the New Zealand Cup, is fancied by southern sports men for her Auckland Cup engagement, in which she will be ridden, by W. J. Broughton.
I The Favourite Selections. This week's favourites for the Auckland Cup are Old Bill 9.0, Bean Vite 9.6, Royal Chief 9.11, Pern 7.0 and Our Jean 7.10; while for the Railway Handicap leading fancies are Kathbella, Marshall Hall, Ladv Tinkle, Merry Vaals and Belle Cane. The Railway Handicap. News from the south is to the effect that if appearances are any guide Belle Cane should be better than ever for her holiday engagements. It is understood that she will be a starter in the Auckland Railwajr Handicap, in which she has been allotted 7.4. Being a very quick beginner she will be expected to run a very fast six furlongs. A Good Winning- Total. In Australia this season, which still has some months to run, New Zealand bred horses have Avon in stakes over £30,000, principally through the agency of Beau Vite, Beaulivrc, High Caste and Gold Salute. In January next the National Sales will again be held at Trentham, and that there will be a large attendance of Australian buyers j would appear to be assured, | • J A Very Fne Performance. The victory of Old Bill on Saturday in the Bolton Handicap at Wood ville was a very sterling performance for he carried the welter weight of 9.10 in a field of eight, and ran the mile and a quarter in 2.6 1-5. This winner of the Wellington Centennial Cup in January last is bred on staying lines, being by Siegfried from Liaison. He is raced by; Messrs H. H. Pharazvn and W. Greenwood of Hawke's Bay. The first named was successful in the Auckland Cup of 1930 with Motere a half brother to Qjhl Bill, who is now strongly m favour for this month's big two miles event, in which he will carry 9.0, the liandicapper having decided, not t® rehandicap him for liis Woodville win.
