WAIMANA RECITAL
MISS WALTON'S PUPILS
FURTHER ENTERTAINMENT
GIVEN
Wairaana attended in force the concert recital given by the pupils of Miss Kath Walton, last Monday evening, when the programme rer cently given in Whakatane was repeated with signal success. The hall was packed, and the fact that many of the young artists were from the settlement itself gave the proceedings even greater interest for the enthusiastic audience.
! Most of the main items presented in Whakatane were* repeated and found the warmest support, especially the displays, by the toddlers, little Anne Prater and Janice Bell. The ballet work was if anything an improvement on the first performance, though the assemblies were not so numerous, owing to the distance many of the young dancers had to travel. The shoAV however was first' class,, and once again a miracle of organisation and staging. Miss Walton herself figured in the popular Irish Washerwoman Jig, at which she is such an adept,, w T hile the Senior girls were once again very finished in their individual performances. Waimana certainly let itself go in the applause. accorded each item and Mr H. Wardlaw is to be complimented on his control as M.C. In thanking Miss the Chairman of the Patriotic Committee Mr Burnett, said that many persons failed to realise that so much talent existed in the district. Miss Walton was 'o be congratulated on her training and her initiative. The task of promoting such a concert was no mean one, yet it had been carried out j>erfectly and he was pleased to be a6le to announce that as a result the funds would benefit to the extent of £32. (Applause).
The dance which followed the con cert attracted a large crowd. The Whakatane Pipe Band which had been in attendance throughout the evening, provided music foT several dances and also gave its marching display. Supper Avas in the hands of a capable ladies committee Avhile bright music Avas provided by A 4 Wardlaw's Melody Boys.
