KNOX GIRLS'AUXILIARY

■ ?MAN INTERESTING ADDRESS The final meeting for the year of "Knox Girls' Auxiliary was held in the Church Hall last Wednesday '-evening. There was a good attend-. «ance. of members and church friends. .After the business, Mrs Ross Murray, late of the Te Whaiti Maori boys' farm, gave a very interesting talk on the founding of the farm -and of the work. Little has been itold of this training farm, Some years ago the Presbyterian Missions Committee deeided to purchase land .and erect buildings to house Maori iboys who would receive instruction In elemental aiM practical farming -.as well as experiencing Christian home life. Over 1300 acres of land were purchased in the Tc Whaiti -district and there, after clearing .away scrub and manuka, buildings were erected and Mr and Mrs Ross .Murray were appointed to the work. Then . two boys took up their v and later the number ten. Part of their training included household duties as ■well, as undertaking weekly lessons which included English and arithmetic. Evening prayers in which the boys themselves toook part, ended each busy.day. The greater number of the boys have already finished their training and have returned to their own homes. Few people seeing the beautiful grounds and well kept flower beds to-day would recognise the farm as it was in its virgin state a few; years ago. Mrs Murray proved a most fluent -speaker and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A social hour followed and a presentation of a fruit dish was made by the Girls' Auxiliary to .Miss Alison Garaway who is shortly to be married. - • Mrs F. B. Cutler of McAlister "Street, entertained Ivnox Choir at a musical evening on Thursday when jNliss A. Garaway was the recipient •of a wall mirror from the Sunday School and Choir.
