MANAGER'S HALF-YEARLY REPORTS FURTHER PROGRESS RECORDED At the monthly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Power Board the en-gineer-manager, Mr J. D. Dicker, presented the following report for the half-yearly period:— Further progress and development is recorded, and a comparison of the half-year- with the estimates for the year shows a satisfactory position. When compared with the corresponding half-year for 1939, sale of electricity has increased by 8.32 per cent, while working costs have increased by 2.35 per cent, which figure includes a 14.9 per cent increase in. cost of power. The trading department turnover shows an increase of 23.5 per cent. Power Cost Analysis Etc.: Attached is a comparison schedule for the half-year ended 30th September 1940 for the corresponding period of the previous year, Capital Expenditure: The nett capital expenditure for the period amounts to £3423 19s 5d and covers the cost of new construction work as detailed below, together with an amount of £1200 for the purchase of land and buildings.

The first figure in each case is for expenditure 1/4/40 to 30/9/40 and the figure in parentheses is the estimate for year 1/4/40 to 31/3/41.

Interest and sinking fund £8000 5s 3d (£12,200); power purchased £10,238 10s (£20,000); administration and management £966 9s 3d (£2040); office expenses, printing, advertising and stationery supplies £1013 19s lid (£1900); meter read-* ing and inspection £1074 6s '8d (£2400); servicing faults £1059 5s (£2650); rates, rents, insurance, etc. legal expenses,, board members' expenses and sundries £573 18s 5d (950); maintenance lines and suba £1663 18s 5d (£4000); replacements; and renewals £477 12s 3d (£1000); building maintenance £83 9s 6d (£100); bad debts £51 Is lid (£100); capital expenditure £3423 19s 5d (£4500). '

Revenue figures covering the same periods are: Sale of electricity £26,963 15s 7d (£54,000); sundry and £278 13s 7d (£600). Capital. Expenditure 1/4/40 to 30/9/40: Wages £416 6s ;9d, transport £113 35., materials £2205 10s Id, land purchase £1200. Total' expenditure £3936 19s lOd. Less amount recow ered from service lines charged to consumers £513 0s sd. Nett expenditure for half year £3423 19s sd.

Estimate for year 1/4/40. to 31/341: £4500.
