INQUEST HELD
WHAKATANE RIVER DROWNING EVIDENCE OF COMPANION The inquest was held yesterday t into the death of Robert! Loonies, :aged 15 years, who was drowned when his home-made canoe capsized in the "YVhakatane River on the -evening. of Sunday November 10 Alter evidence of identification had been given a companion of deceased stated that together with a third boy they had paddled their -canoes down to the Heads during] the day, returning up river at about 6 p.m. They landed at a. groin, deceased being last. He said that his •canoe had some water in it and wit- " ness advised him to wait and thciy would give assistance in baling out, Deceased paddled to the end of the -where his canoe was catfght strong current, the river beflood. Witness said he saw the canoe capsize and deceased disappeared. EJvidence of finding the body cn "the -river bank was given by Mr Walter Petty and the coroncr, Mr 'G. A. Brabant, J.P, returned a ver- • diet of accidental drowning.
