POPULAR WHAKATANE GIRL

FUNCTION IN KNOX HALL

An informal musical evening was held recently at the home of Mrs Garaway, King Street, in honour of Miss Jean Patterson who was the recipient of u crystal salad bowl and servers, from the Knox ~~ Choir Girls' Auxiliary and Senior GirlsBible Class. She also received a posy and a bouquet of roses.

The large gathering of friends who filled Knox Hall on Monday evening testified to the popularity of Miss Jean Patterson and Mr H. G. Cutler, The room looked gay with bowls of Iceland poppies, sweet peas and gerberas. . Items as follows were given:—Humorous read ing, Mrs Hogg; vocal duet, Messrs A. Boswell and F. L. Watson: pianoforte duet, Margaret Kirk and Isobel Martin; solo, Mr F. L. Watson; Song of the Danube, Girls' chorus; moutliorgan solo, Mr Carlton Kerr; humorous sketch, Misses M. Whiteside and M. Graham.

Presenting the guests of honour with a case of cutlery, Mr R. Hill wished them both the best that life could offer them, and hoped that it would not be long before they settled down among their many friends in Whakatane.

In the absence of Mr H. G. Cutler, Miss Patterson suitably replied. Mr F. B. Cutler also - thanked friends for their good wishes.

At this stage a book was presented to Miss Minnie Patterson who is leaving for Wellington to take up a nursing career. Good wishes go with her and hopes that she will have a happy and interesting time in the capital city. A delicious supper was served by a capable committee and the evening was clos ed by devotions conducted by the Rev. H. Hogg.
