ORGANISED OBJECTION
HAS anyone heard of the Conscientious Objectors' Advisory Committee? That such an organisation exists (a,nd this certainly is the case) comes as a surprise to the average, citizen busy with his work and assisting where he can with patriotic affairs. Yet since-the announcing of the second ballot just a week ago many of the local men have received a communication intimating that the advisory committee "is willing to help in every way possible, all who desire information concerning the provisions relating to conscientious objection to military service." The names and addresses of the self-styled committee are given in detail. There is no disguising the fact that the circular itself is lending active encouragement to those who might be tempted to shirk their duty, whether they are genuine conscientious objectors or not. Thus it will be seen that the committee is not fair to itself, but is rather creating a very dangerous impression by making its offer a general one. The faot also that it must have spent upwards of £100 in sending out the circulars makes it clear that it has funds which are not stinted. If its cause is genuine, then it would be less dangerous to allow genuine objectors to gravitate to it, seeking advice. Instead of that the committee is not satisfied until it has circularised the whole of the ballot-drawn men. A little investigation behind the scenes might reveal some interesting details.
